Abstract

The current obesity epidemic has already led to a prominent increase in the prevalence of young adults with components of the metabolic syndrome which markedly increases their risk of cardiovascular disease. This review outlines the current epidemiology of childhood obesity and summarises recent studies into potential interventions in childhood that may ameliorate the future burden of weight-related disease. © TOUCH BRIEFINGS 2011.
