Abstract

As immediate postoperative period is considered the time from recovery of anesthesia to discharge from the hospital, usually from 1 to 4 weeks, although in some countries (e.g., the United Kingdom), legally the postoperative period extends to the first 4 weeks from operation, and every complication in that period is considered a result of, or intimately related to, the operation, regardless of whether the patient has gone home. Posterior fossa surgery poses many dangers and the postoperative period requires particular vigilance.
