Abstract

This paper proposes two opposing approaches for enhancing energy efficiency in buildings as a part of combating climate change and summarizes interim outcomes from two ongoing research projects. The first project focuses on adopting sustainable design methodologies in new buildings, and the second one aims at 'greening' old but otherwise economically viable and usable buildings. Finally, the paper points to the potential for an integrated platform for efficient energy management system for buildings for clients and/or owners, albeit with addressing a range of issues.
