Abstract
The 240MVA La Rance tidal power station began operation in France in 1966. This article describes operational experience of the plant, focusing on the bulb-type reversible turbine units and the ongoing renovation programme. Rehabilitation works involve rebuilding stator units, and the use of a new stronger alloy for fastening the magnetic circuit within the stator housing.
