Abstract

Different Brassica species and cultivars as well as some Sinapis alba cultivars were screened for their susceptibility to infection by Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Among the species tested, B. campesrris cv. Emma showed the greatest susceptibility, assayed as turnour formation, following infection by wild type bacteria. Protoplasts isolated from Emma were successfully transformed by cocultivation with an Agrobacterium strain harbouring the non‐oncogenic Ti‐plasmid pGV3850::2103neo. Transformation was confirmed by growth of transformed plant cells on medium containing 50 mg/l kanamycin sulphate and by their production of nopaline. Copyright © 1988, Wiley Blackwell.
