Abstract
An investigation of natural, flame-fusion, and flux-grown, deep blue spinels indicates that an iron-related absorption band at about 460 nm is characteristic of only the natural specimens and that flame-fusion synthetics may be distinguished by their lower R.I.s.-R.V.D.
