Abstract

This review presents and discusses evidence demonstrating the importance of mitochondria and related processes in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. Mitochondrial dysfunction is currently emerging as a potential therapeutic target in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. This paper also reviews various drug strategies aimed at mitochondrial dysfunction and the development of oxidative stress.
