Abstract
Many of the settlements in the Andean foothills have been established according to location of natural resources. Two Chilean settlements related to copper mining are analyzed, one from the beginnings of the 20th century -Sewell- and another from the beginnings of the 21st century -Pelambres-, differentiating their particular ways of understanding the land and inhabiting it.
