Abstract

In order to determine asymptotic properties of the final outcome of a stochastic SIR epidemic in a structured population, such as one partitioned into households, as the population size N → ∞, exact results concerning the final outcome of a stochastic SIR epidemic in a homogeneously mixing population are required.
