Abstract

Recent results obtained using the x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) on liquids under high-pressure are presented. Advanced instrumentation combining XAS and x-ray diffraction and RMC XAS data-analysis techniques allowed to study and discuss the presence of metastable states in Bi and Sn at high pressures. Differences in the average local structure of liquid metals are briefly discussed. © 2008 IOP Publishing Ltd.
