Abstract

A mixed layer advection and diffusion model with feedback and local forcing by the atmosphere was developed to simulate North Pacific sea surface temperature anomalies. Results obtained from optimal model fitting generally agreed with direct estimates, where available. This confirmed previous results attributing such anomalies to stochastic atmospheric forcing.
