The impact of virtual meetings on a hospital system

Abstract

As is the case with most hospitals, our unitbased staff meetings were transitioned to virtual meetings to decrease the risk of person-to-person exposures in the hospital setting during the COVID-19 pandemic.1 At the beginning of the pandemic, hospitals needed to quickly enforce social distancing measures to decrease exposure risk among staff.2 Across the globe, nurses considered new paradigms and adopted innovative practices designed to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.3 One of the most ubiquitous changes was the shift from in-person to virtual work environments.4,5 However, we found no studies in the nursing literature to guide the use of virtual meetings after the pandemic. The purpose of this study was to explore if the virtual meeting platform impacted staff meeting attendance when compared with the more traditional in-person platform.
