Abstract

The article offers suggestions on how college and university libraries can establish and sustain a successful social media. It mentions that libraries should find specific reason for using social media and to come up with solid goals that will enable libraries to know whether they are succeeding. It emphasizes the importance of personalizing the social media account and of having a link to the library's Web site. It cites the things that libraries could post on the social media account including additions to collections, library news and events, and response to people's feedback. It also talks on the strategies on how to market the social media presence such as by talking to people, distributing print advertisement, and mentioning it to students during a classroom session.
