Abstract

The importance of micronutrients and a generally “healthy diet” during pregnancy is undisputed. In contrast, the data on the effect of periconceptional nutrition on conception, implantation and pregnancy in the further course is far less clear. It would appear certain that a high proportion of whole grain products, fruits, vegetables, fish and olive oil with a moderate proportion of carbohydrates has beneficial effects. Nowadays, folic acid supplementation is mandatory for those wishing to have children; according to the current guidelines of the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies, this can be complemented by vitamin D.
