Abstract

HYDROGEN is receiving much attention as a clean fuel1-4. It is usually stated or implied that hydrogen is a clean fuel because only water is produced when hydrogen is ignited in an engine. Unfortunately, this is not a fact. The following reaction also occurs: "figure presented" Furthermore, as energy is extracted from the reaction as work, the reaction favours the production of more hydrogen peroxide. © 1974 Nature Publishing Group.
