Abstract

This article is structured to begin placing the research related to musical development into a model that integrates musical research with accepted models of child development. research related to musical skill development is reviewed as it relates to auditory, vocal/tonal, rhytmic, and cognitive musical development. A four-phase model of musical development is then presented. The four phases of development are outlined and discussed in relation to both musical development and psychological development.
