Abstract
Examines criticism of George W. Bush administration policy and strategy during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), and refutes comparisons with Iraq or the Vietnam War. Included in a collection of articles under the overall title "Waging war on terror". Argues that primary purpose of US presence in Afghanistan was and is destruction of al Qaeda, its Taliban shield and support structure, and prevention of the territory's use as a sanctuary for continued al Qaeda operations.
