Abstract
Sociology's tools are crafted in order to test hypothesis expressed in specific historical and political contexts. The best of these tools, such as the Moreno question, became standards tools used in many research protocols but is it possible to apply them to every case? The history and the properties of these tools condition their utilisation, which explain partly why the Moreno question is hardly used in France. While other indicators are favoured to study the relationship between national and regional identities, the Moreno question is used to study the relationship between national and European identity.
