Abstract

Seven chitin synthesis-inhibiting compounds were evaluated for activity against stored product insects in wheat. None of the compounds was acutely toxic to any species. N-[4-(4-nitrophenoxy)-3, 5-dichlorophenyl amino carbonyl]-2-chlorobenzamide with ID95 values of 0.1, 0.1, 0.3, 0.7, 0.8, 0.3, and 0.5 ppm, was most effective as a suppressor of development of the confused flour beetle, Tribolium confusum Jacquelin duVal, granary weevil, Sitophilus granarías (L.), lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha Dominica (F.), rice weevil, S. oryzae (L.), sawtoothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), almond moth Ephestia cautella (Walker), and Indianmeal moth, Ptodia interpunctella (Hübner), respectively. Other compounds were at least 10 times less effective.
