Musik Protes di Indonesia Pada Era Reformasi: Sebuah Kajian Historis

Abstract

Protest music has become part of the political dynamics in a country, including Indonesia. This type of music appears as a form of resistance to policies that are not in accordance with the interests of the people. The Reformation Era was seen as a period that opened a wide range of creativity and the expression of public opinion. This builds on the idea that protest music will develop more diversely than during the New Order era. This study aims to describe the historical development of protest music in Indonesia in the reform era through the perspective of Pierre Bourdieu's field of struggle and habitus. The method used in this research is historiography which is sourced from literature on the Internet. The results show that there are 4 periodizations that can be formed, namely: the first 10 years of the reform period, the start of the use of digital media, the rise of local issues and protest music in the criticism of power. Through the perspective of the field of struggle, protest music has become an effort for agents, in this case musicians, who have the cultural capital to fight against the domination of the structures formed by the government. Further research can explore protest music through interviews with relevant figures.
