Abstract

Understanding solar radiation data is essential for modeling solar energy systems. The purpose of the present study was to estimate global solar radiation on horizontal surface using sunshine-based models. Angstrom-type polynomials of first and second order have been developed from long term records of monthly mean daily sunshine hour values and measured daily global solar radiation on horizontal surface at Kigali, Rwanda. Coefficients of those polynomials were derived using least square regression analysis. These coefficients were then used for the estimation of solar radiation in other places of Rwanda where measures of solar radiation do not exist but sunshine records are available. © 2009 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
