Dactylospora canariensis sp. nov. and notes on D. haliotrepha

Abstract

The marine fungus, Dactylospora canariensis is described from driftwood collected on the shores of Tenerife (Canary Islands). It is compared with Banhegyia setispora, a strikingly similar terrestrial species in the Patellariaceae, with which it had originally been confused. D. canariensis and D. haliotrepha are the only marine members in the Dactylosporaceae. In pure culture mycelia of D. haliotrepha produce antheridia with spermatia.
