Abstract

The world continues to grapple with the multifaceted challenges of waste management. Indonesia faces a growing challenge: garden waste makes up 13% of unmanaged waste (4.2 million tons in 2022). With a legal mandate for extensive green spaces, this waste stream is likely to increase. This study assesses the potential of garden waste across Indonesia and explores utilization technologies. We explore options for sustainable utilization by analyzing existing waste management data and leveraging relevant research. Preliminary findings suggest substantial garden waste volume with potential for biofuels and other valuable products, contributing to low-carbon development in Indonesia.
