Abstract

The scientific world has always been interested in exploring novel energy resources due to the continuous depletion of fossil fuels. Rising population levels have contributed extensively to fuel demand and have in turn led to environmental problems such as global warming and air pollution. This scenario made the researchers develop ‘Biofuels, ' which can be produced through feasible and environmentally safe protocols. Microorganisms have attained new research interest in their application for the production of sustainable biofuels. This chapter focuses on the types of biofuels available and their properties. The current processes and techniques available for the production of various biofuels are also discussed. The scope and future perspectives of the topic were summarized.
