Abstract
The Islamic Primary School (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah) is a form of response to the needs of the Indonesian Muslim community and as a patron of secular education brought by the Dutch. In its implementation, different experiences of socio-cultural life and various system-factors give rise to challenges for the implementation of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) education. It is urgent to be comprehensively examined, given the contemporary realm of vulnerability to local identity problems from the influence of transnational doctrine to practical problems in the learning process. This study aims to describe contemporary issues and trends that occur in the scope of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. With the description gives an overview of all the problems or subjects that are discussed in the scope of education in MI in the global. Data collected using techniques: documents, interviews, survey-questionnaires, and observations. All data were analyzed using Miles-Huberman's perspective. The writing of this study is done thematically. The results describe contemporary demographics, prototypes for MI, and understanding today's school (present issues in a contemporary classroom).
