Creencias populates sobre el autocuidado durante elpuerperio, en las instituciones de salud de nivel 1

Abstract

This study is a qualitative research carried out with the purpose of knowing the beliefs of women during the puerperium to facilitate the integration of cultural aspects for caring of women in postpartum. The purposive sample was 50 women who attended to the puerperium clinic in institutions such as Joaquín Paz Borrero, Siloé, Cañaveralejo, Primitivo Iglesias and Carlos Carmona hospitals. A semistructured interview was conducted which was elaborated through an on-the-field work with focus groups with the participation of women in puerperium phase, registered nurses and nurse's assistants. The findings are centered on the beliefs about body care, nourishment, the use of plants in selfcare and the care within the last day of the puerperium phase. Beliefs based on the magical medicine, contribute to the conservation of the health during the puerperium considered by mothers as a morbid-process. © 1997 Corporaccion Editora Médica del Valle.
