Burn treatment with transparent polyurethane wound dressing (Omiderm): Two case reports

Abstract

Omiderm is a hydrophilic, polyurethan based, thin, transparent wound dress, which is permeable for water and oxygen. It avoids permeation of bacteria, fungi, virus particles, and protein, and protects the wound agains infections. Omiderm has been used for the treatment of several types of wounds, mostly, burns, but our physcians are generally not familiar to this dressing. Herein we describe two patients with recalcitrant second and third degree thermal burn wounds, who were successfully treated with Omiderm. We think that Omiderm may be a treatment option for burns, owing to its easy use and beneficial effects on epithelization and pain relief.
