Abstract

In this paper we use two inviscid models to study the interactions between coaxial pairs of vortex rings. One model is based upon the thin-ring approximation, the other is based upon a contour-dynamics approach. Predictions from the two models are in good agreement with one another, and with earlier results obtained from numerical simulations of the Navier-Stokes equations at high Reynolds number.
