The Solar System game in Libras as a physics teaching method for deaf students

Abstract

This work presents a reflection on the use of a bilingual game for deaf students in physics teaching, astronomy specifically from the experience of the game Solar System in Libras presented at an academic-scientific event in 2019. We understand that the teaching of physics, in general, lacks adapted materials and methodologies for the deaf. On the other hand, we also understand that the vocabulary in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) is scarce when referring to terms related to the contents of physics. To build this work, were fundamental the information provided in the literature regarding the subject studied using bibliographical research, as well as a survey of basic signs related to astronomy available in the database of the National Institute of Deaf Education - INES and in the Phala Institute. The information provided through oral reports by people who were willing to give their opinions in interviews about the aforementioned game aimed at teaching physics to deaf people was also essential. We conclude usage of bilingual games provides better teaching and learning conditions, considering both deaf and hearing students will develop actively and engagingly in the classroom.
