Abstract

The eastern waters of Aceh are located in Indonesia which borders the Malacca Strait which provides transportation access to other parts of Aceh, North Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia. This tidal range is very important, for example ship loading and unloading activities, shipping activities, sea fishing and tourism. Tidal range data are generally obtained by measurement, accessing online sites or obtained from government agencies. The purpose of this research study is to obtain a tidal range in the Eastern waters of Aceh. Tidal range is calculated based on the amplitude constant of the main harmonic component. Tidal range locations calculated were Idi Estuary, Beukah Estuary, Langsa Bay, and Tamiang Estuary. Based on the results, the tidal range of Idi Estuary, Beukah Estuary, Langsa Bay, and Tamiang Estuary reached 2.4 m, 2.5 m, 2.7 m and 2.8 m, respectively. The results obtained show that tidal range is highly dependent on tidal locations. The Tidal range in Tamiang Estuary is greater than that of Langsa Bay, Beukah Estuary, and Idi Estuary. This tidal range finding provides benefits for managing ports in ship loading and unloading activities which are appropriately linked to the port category.
