Abstract

The study discusses the effect of nitroglycerin (C3H5 (ONO2) reactant concentrations on mixing efficiency. The aim is to predict the flow of nitric acid and glycerol mixing using focused microchannel hydrodynamics (inlet focus ratio 1:2). Glycerol (with added yellow food coloring) is supplied to the core channel and nitric acid (red coloring) in the sheath channel. The reactant mixing flow is then recorded for data collection. The independent variables are the 2M, 5M, and 10M reactant concentrations. Image data is processed using color-based segmentation, using the color space from the MATLAB program; this data includes reactant color, product, and mixing efficiency. The results of this study indicate that the greater the reactant molarity, the greater the efficiency of the mixture. 10M molarity, 4000 μm distance has a mixing index of 0.98, while the molarity of 5M and 2M at the same distance are only 0.74 and 0.6, respectively. The greater the reactant concentration, the greater the possibility of particle collision. This causes the density of the solution to increase, resulting in a flat shape in the boundary layer of the two reactants.
