Abstract

The chromosome counts for Brazilian populations of Batrachospermum were n = 3 for B. ambiguum, B. brasiliense, B. delicatulum and B. puiggarianum, 2n = ca. 6 for the first three taxa and n = 4 for B. vagum and B. virgatum. B. ambiguum and B. vagum consistently had an additional nucleus in the trichogyne of unfertilized carpogonia. © 1992, The British Phycological Society.
