Abstract

This paper discusses the interface between schools, museums and other locales of scientific and technical culture. Our goal is to define the terms for a partnership aimed at nurturing science education. After we analyze the literature and research results derived from the areas of “education for,” we examine the possibility of utilizing the concepts of “boundary objects” and “islands of rationality” to explain and model the complexity of the crossroads of innovation between formal and non-formal education.
