Enseñando a comunicar malas noticias en medicina. Una experiencia en el Hospital Italiano

Abstract

The ability of how to communicate bad news needs to be taught as any medical technique. It is important to underline that this task must be performed taking into account the following aspects: the physician´s right to inform, the patient´s right to not be informed, the evaluation of patient´s emotional and information states before talking to them, as well as offering always a solving treatment (either healing or palliative) to the patient. In this article, it is also presented the experience of teaching this skill at the Pediatric Department of Hospital Italiano de Buenos AiresLa destreza de cómo comunicar malas noticias requiere ser enseñada al igual que cualquier otra habilidad técnica en el ámbito médico-asistencial. Es fundamental destacar que dicha tarea debe realizarse teniendo en cuenta el derecho del médico a informar y el del paciente a no ser informado. Se debe reconocer el estado emocional y de información que posee el paciente antes del informe, así como también ofrecer alguna forma de tratamiento, ya sea curativo o paliativo. En el presente artículo se describe la experiencia del Departamento de Pediatría, respecto de la enseñanza de esta habilidad en el ámbito del Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires
