Abstract
This study deals with the effectso f dietaryc arbohydrateso n the body weight gain,s urvival, proteine fficiencrya tio,a nd the hepatopancreatigcl ycogen and serum glucosel evelso f the prawn, Penaeus japonicus. The highestw eight gain was attainedi n the dietc ontaining1 9.5% maltose as a carbohydrate source. The growth of prawn was poor in the dietsc ontainingh igh levelso f the monosaccharides glucosea nd galactosea,s compared with thato f prawns which receivedt he disaccharidessu crosea nd maltose,a nd the polysaccharidesso lubles tarch,p otatos tarch,d extrina,n d glycogen. Feeding with dietsc ontainingg lucoseo r galactosef or 30 days resultedi n high hepatopancre aticg lycogenc oncentrations.A lso, the serum glucosel evelo f the prawn increasedq uicklya fter orala dministratioonf glucosea nd remained at high levelsf or 24 h, whereas aftert he administration of disacchazideasn d polysaccharidesi,ti ncreasedt o a maximum levela fter3 h and then decreased to the pre-testl evel. © 1979, The Japanese Society of Fisheries Science.
