Abstract
The increased prevalence of mast cells in rheumatoid synovium, pannus and bone can no longer be construed as a passive and incidental process. The wide range of properties of mast cells determined in other systems suggests that their role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis should be evaluated.
