The synthesis and antimicrobial evaluation of new 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-aryl-1-phenyl-4-pyrazolyl)pyridine-3,5-dicarboxylates and 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-aryl-1-phenyl-4-pyrazolyl)pyridine-3,5-dicarboxylates was reported. The synthesis of new 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-aryl-1-phenyl-4-pyrazolyl)pyridine-3,5-dicarboxylates was accomplished by multicomponent cyclocondensation of AcCH2CO2Et, 3-aryl-1-phenylpyrazole-4-carboxaldehydes, and NH4OAc. The dihydropyridines were smoothly converted to new 2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-aryl-1-phenyl-4-pyrazolyl)pyridine-3,5-dicarboxylates using [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene (HTIB, Koser's reagent) as oxidizing agent. The dihydropyridines as well as the pyridines exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activities. [on SciFinder(R)]
