Abstract

The riddle claptrap is very good for catching Water Rails. Its construction and use are described. Birds are caught from dawn until dusk and in almost all weathers. In three years, 987 Water Rails were caught with an average of 18 traps for 222 catching days. Of the 708 Water Rails ringed, 20 were recovered, 15 of them from the ringing site and two from abroad (Finland, France). © 1979 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
