El contexto musical e iconográfico en Prog ne y Filomena de Rojas Zorrilla

Abstract

This article studies how dramatic plays -using iconographical and musical instruments in order to shape the scene-try to underline tragic aspects enclosed in the myth of Progne and Filomena, contained in book vi of Ovid's Metamorphosis. Taking into consideration different textual analyses and, specially, Rojas Zorrilla's Progne y Filomena (published in Primera Parte de Comedias, 1640), we study not only the influence of the musical fact over the tragic anticipations, but the relevance of iconographie and emblematical literature in order to understand the scenes composed over the stage -with special attention to Medieval and Renaissance editions of Metamorphosis-in order to character and describe the interartial cooperation disposed to reveal the tragic spirit in baroque theatre.
