Abstract
Islamic law is a guide for human life on this earth wich is still used today because of a school of thought. There are two schools of thought, namely schools in aqidah and schools in fiqh. At pondok modern Gontor, it is not burdensome for the students to follow a certain school, while it is said that a pesantren cannotbe gray and must be oriented to one school. This is what will be the subject of discussion in this paper which presents two problem formulations 1). What is the role of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor 11 Poso, Central of Sulawesi in responding to the diversity of schools of throught? 2). What is position of the Madhhab in the sustainability of Gontor 11 Pondok Modern, Poso, Central Sulawesi? The methodology used is in the form of field research with normative-empirical and empirical approaches. From the results of this study, it was concluded that there was no particular school that became the reference for Pondok Modern Gontor 11, and it gave its students the freedom to adhere to one of the qualified schools according to Ahlu Sunnah. In the transformation of roles, the Kiyai who is used as the main figure actually has a school that he adheres to, but does not impose his will on his student to follow the school of thought he adheres to. And of course the clerics are also required to provide insight that in Indonesia the majority are Al-Shafi’I schools, so it is emphasized that their students understand well the Al-Shafi’i schools so that later they can be well received and not clash with the community
