Abstract
During the interwar period Italy, Austria, Portugal, Germany and Spain implemented processes of institutionalization of labor relations under authoritarian premises. Those processes intended to be an alternative both to the liberal capitalistic principle of free labor market and to the pluralistic processes of institutionalization that, contemporarily, were taking place in democratic countries. In this article we will discuss the ideological roots and the institutional developments of those experiences, paying special attention to the Spanish case. Finally, we will underline their similarities and differences, in order to elaborate a model that can be useful for the historical interpretation of labor authoritarianism.
