Relationship Maintenance Strategies

Abstract

Relational partners engage in behaviors designed to maintain their relationships and a research literature has focused on relationship maintenance. This entry looks at definitions of relationship maintenance, maintenance strategies, and theories used to explain and predict relationship maintenance. Two recent research areas that focus on the associations between culture and maintenance communication, and between computer-mediated communication and relationship maintenance, are also examined.
