With the purpose to evaluate short term changes in structure of phytoplankton community in a lateral arm of the Rosana Reservoir, formed by Corvo river, triplicate samples of total phytoplankton were taken at subsurface at the pelagic region. 86 taxa were recorded and Chlorophyceae was the most specious group. Cryptophyceae, Cyanobacteria and Chrysophyceae had higher densities, whose values were greater during the first 10 sampling days. Blooms of Radiocystis fernandoi (M FG) were observed during almost whole study period. Values of species richness, diversity and evenness of phytoplankton were relatively low, and in general, they did not present significant differences among studied days. Low values of specific diversity were influenced by low species richness and dominance, with minimum values of diversity associated to maximum values of Radiocystis fernandoi biomass. Low values of species richness, diversity and evenness associated to the dominance in biomass of a single species indicated high complexity of phytoplankton organization, low fluctuations in its structure, as well as the occurrence of a stable state during the study period
