Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma of the Maxillary Sinus

Abstract

A 42-year-old male with early malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the maxillary sinus was treated with subtotal resection of the maxilla and has had no recurrence for 7 years and 9 months after surgery. Forty-four cases of MFH of the maxillary sinus in Japan have been reported up to 1988. The incidence is higher in males than in females. The age distribution of most of the patients ranged from 30 to 69 years. The storiform-pleomorphic type accounted for 75% of the cases. The first-choice treatment is surgery, and radiotherapy and chemotherapy should be employed as adjuvant treatment. © 1990, The Society of Practical Otolaryngology. All rights reserved.
