Abstract

Water birds nesting in Ensenada de La Paz were recorded from 1992 to 1994. Thirteen nesting species were observed: Ardea herodias, Bubulcus ibis, Egretta rufescens, E. thula, E. tricolor, E. caerulea, Nyctanassa violacea, Nycticorax nycticorax, Eudocimus albus, Butorides striatus, Rallus limicola, Charardius wilsonia and Sterna antillarum. The most important nesting sites were the mangrove forests of El Conchalito and CETMAR, where 11 species were recorded. A gradual decrease in the number of nests of several species was observed.
