Abstract
A protocol for an anonymous questionnaire survey according to European regulations. In 2018 the European Union General Data Protection Rules (GDPR) entered into application, which led many social scientists to question the concordance between their research practices and the legal framework. I have taught survey methods to Masters students by making them carry out a 10-minute questionnaire survey. This included deontological and legal aspects of survey practices. In order to ensure these surveys complied with the legislation, I sought the help of a lawyer, my institution’s delegate for data protection. This resulted in a protocol for an anonymous questionnaire survey (self-administered online and by phone interview) that is reproduced here. It is preceded by a discussion of the context of the legislation on personal data; how the survey at the origin of the protocol was conducted; and finally, the choice to completely anonymize the study.
