Abstract

The currently used devices provide reliable ventricular support, with a risk of device implantation that is predominantly determined by the preoperative condition of the patient. This condition is also the key determinant for device selection that is based on multiple factors including patients' potential for myocardial and organ recovery, the remaining heart function as well as eligibility for transplantation.
