Controlling crystal nucleation and growth leading to formation of nano structures by an original flux treatment method mainly in calcia and magnesia crucibles followed by water-cooling allowed production of Ti45Cu 45Fe10 bulky nanostructured alloy of 16 mm in diameter. Since a glass forming ability (GFA) of the alloy composition is low, the alloy could not form an amorphous structure even by a common rapid quenching manner such as a melt-spun method. At the same time control over crystal nucleation and growth by fluxing was achieved on melting with flux-. a reagent which has a low melting temperature and good wettability. The crystal growth control in our investigations is also possible for different other alloys such as Ti 45CU45Ni10 alloy. ©2011 The Japan Institute of Metals.
