Abstract

Background: Receptor-activating autoantibodies are associated with various cardiovascular diseases. Results: A human monoclonal autoantibody isolated from a patient with idiopathic postural hypotension activates the β2-adrenergic receptor and induces potent vasodilatation. Conclusion: This antibody demonstrates sufficient activity to produce postural hypotension in its host. Significance: This is the first human monoclonal autoantibody that activates an autonomic receptor. © 2013 by The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Inc.
