Histological and histochemical characterization of the venom apparatus of palestine yellow scorpion, leiurus quinquestriatus hemprich and ehrenberg 1828

Abstract

Histological and histochemical investigations were carried out on the venom glands of the Palestine yellow scorpion, Leiurus quinquestriatus Hemprich and Ehrenberg 1828. The results reveal that the venom-producing cells elaborate neutral mucosubstances, sialomucins, protein radicals and metachromatic reactions. The histoenzymological tests employed have detected alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, adenosine triphosphatase, non-specific esterases, succinic dehydrogenase, aminopeptidase and a questionable trace activity of Cholinesterase but no lipase activity. © 1993 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
