Abstract

Histological and histochemical investigations were carried out on the venom glands of the Palestine yellow scorpion, Leiurus quinquestriatus Hemprich and Ehrenberg 1828. The results reveal that the venom-producing cells elaborate neutral mucosubstances, sialomucins, protein radicals and metachromatic reactions. The histoenzymological tests employed have detected alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, adenosine triphosphatase, non-specific esterases, succinic dehydrogenase, aminopeptidase and a questionable trace activity of Cholinesterase but no lipase activity. © 1993 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
